The thing that fascinates me the most about the tropics is the way life grows in harmony alongside each other, even though all plant life competes for sunlight. It is remarkable to realize that many plants in the rainforests grow not in the ground but on the branches of other plants. These plants, such as ferns, cacti, orchids, and bromeliads, are epiphytes, and they grow exclusively on the branches of trees. This literally means that life is supporting other forms of life, making these areas particularly rich in biodiversity and life.
