Album covers that give a piece of music its first image.

Illusions by Thomas Bergersen (2011) is where my work for musicians began, and with over a million copies sold it is still the cover most people know. I did the art direction for the whole package: cover, disc, inlay and back, all built around a red rose under a glass dome.

Thomas Bergersen is the Norwegian composer behind Two Steps From Hell, whose music fills film trailers and concert halls around the world. I have been a fan of his work for years, so being asked to design Illusions in 2011, my very first graphic commission, meant a great deal. Photos: Felix Hohagen.

The digital booklet carries the rose further, through the liner notes, the lyrics and the track list of all 19 songs. I designed it together with the sleeve.

For Mark Yodice’s debut album Luminosity I made the complete visual identity: cover, back cover with track listing and promotional material. Organic imagery and delicate typography give it a sense of stillness and clarity, in tune with the introspective music.

For Barbara Król’s debut single Landscape I made a dreamlike cover: a misty, flower-filled landscape under a glowing moon, with small lights that add a touch of magic. Next to the square cover for streaming I designed a wide banner for her website.

Illusions, Luminosity and Landscape side by side: covers made years apart that still read as one family.

Turning music into images is my favourite work, and it goes beyond the cover. I build the whole world around a release: cover, streaming, social and campaign. From a first single to a next album, let's kickstart your next musical project together.
